How to Install
Mulch in the UAE

A step-by-step guide to installing Green Zen Organic Mulch correctly for maximum moisture retention, weed suppression, and plant health in UAE conditions.

Step by Step

Installation
Process

Step 1 — Prepare the Area

Clear the planting bed of weeds, debris, and any existing old mulch. Water the soil thoroughly — mulch works best applied to moist, not dry, soil.

Step 2 — Calculate Your Quantity

Measure your area (m²) and multiply by your chosen depth in metres. Use our mulch calculator for an instant estimate including bag quantities.

Step 3 — Apply the Mulch

Spread mulch evenly across the bed using a rake or by hand. Work from the edges inward for an even finish. Do not pile mulch against plant stems or tree trunks — keep a 50–100mm gap.

Step 4 — Check Your Depth

Use a ruler or depth gauge to verify even coverage. 70mm is the recommended commercial standard. Areas near large trees can go to 100mm.

Step 5 — Water In

Lightly irrigate after application to help the mulch settle. This also activates the moisture-retention properties immediately.

FAQs

Should I remove old mulch before applying new mulch?
If the existing mulch is less than 25mm deep and in good condition, you can apply new mulch on top. If it is compacted, mouldy, or very degraded, remove it first to ensure good soil contact and drainage.
Can I mulch around trees?
Yes — but keep a 50–100mm gap between the mulch and the tree trunk. Never pile mulch against the bark as this can cause moisture rot. Extend the mulch ring to the drip line of the tree where possible.
How long after installing mulch will I see results?
Moisture retention benefits are immediate — you will notice reduced soil drying within the first irrigation cycle. Weed suppression takes 2–4 weeks to become fully effective as the layer settles.
How often should I top up mulch in Dubai?
Green Zen Organic Mulch typically lasts 18–24 months. A light top-up of 25–30mm annually helps maintain optimal depth and appearance without a full replacement.
